Took me a while to pick up this book again. My wife bought this book for me about a year back and after going through a couple of chapters, I left it on the shelf before I picked it up again last week.

Why did I stop reading? Well, it’s not that the book is not good. In fact, the Secrets of Self-Made Internet Millionaires is packed with a lot of information for any internet marketer, regardless of whether you are new or experienced.

Maybe that was the reason I stopped. You see, I bought the book when I was just beginning to take an interest in internet marketing. Being the way I was (before attending POE), after reading a few chapters, I told myself that the internet marketing world has too many things to concentrate on. There’s simply too much information!

So I procrastinated, and procrastinated, and thoughts of failure started flowing into my mind. “I don’t have the time”, “There’s too much to learn”, “I won’t be able to cope”, “I still have a job”.

In the end, I gave up. I put the book back on the shelf and just left it there.

Nevertheless, I believe I’m back on track after attending Patterns of Excellence and so I picked up the book and continued from where I left off.

And I am so glad I completed it. Still a newbie to internet marketing (I did not take any action due to procrastination), I have now gained much from reading the book. It is true that there is still a lot for me to learn and I know it’s going to take a lot of hard work. The good thing is, I have now returned stronger and am willing to take action.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone starting out to be an internet marketer. Even though the book is published in 2007, there is still a lot of information that is used today. You cannot find this book at Amazon though.

We talked about our progress for the month and how we have been keeping up with our tasks and goals and also shared some personal updates with each other.

My wife bought this book Brilliant Memory by Tony Buzan. Inside the book there are powerful strategies that will open your mind to how it can remember things by simply associating them with pictures and actions. It is similar to what Stuart has taught. Just that the book shares more techniques on how you can improve your memory.

Here I am being introduced to things like adsense, affiliate marketing, CPA, search engine optimization, adwords, membership, copywriting, squeeze page, generating leads, FrontPage, Dreamweaver and so much more it is simply too overwhelming.

Getting traffic is sooooo difficult.

For the past weeks, I have been sleeping between 2-3am and waking up at 7-8am (sometimes late) for my day job. It’s getting really tiring. What pushes me on is really what I learned from Patterns of Excellence. Without that, I’d have given up long ago.

With this, I am still going to continue my journey in internet marketing even though I know it is going to be tough. I know that if I am focused on my goals, I will be successful one day.

I came upon this blog where this guy claims that he is probably the only taxi driver in this world with a PhD from Stanford and a proven track record of scientific accomplishments.

Dr. Cai worked in the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB) of ASTAR, Singapore for 16 years as a PI (principal investigator). In May 2008, his employment was terminated without any form of compensation given.

Although he has been informed of his retrenchment back in 2007, becoming jobless at his age meant limited response to the numerous CV and application letters he had sent. By November 2008, he made his decision to become a taxi driver. In April 2009, he decided to share his taxi driving life by blogging.

This man wrote this as an introduction in his blog: “I have been forced out of my research job at the height of my scientific career, and unable to find another one, for reasons I can only describe as something “uniquely Singapore”. As a result, I am driving taxi to make a living and writing these real life stories just to make the dull job a little more interesting. I hope that these stories are interesting to you too.”

The blog follows Dr. Cai’s taxi driving experience as it allows you to take a look at life and events from a different perspective. It documents his observations of ‘unique Singapore’ passengers through a storytelling mode and takes you through the journey with him.

To me, Dr. Cai is someone whom I can learn from. Despite facing difficult challenges, he is able to have an open and positive mindset. Perhaps the only thing I find pity is that his academic qualifications are put to waste as a taxi driver.

But who knows? Maybe he’ll come up with a book one day and change to be a writer? I can only wish him all the best in whatever he pursues.

The definition of credibility is as follows:

1. The quality, capability, or power to elicit belief.
2. A capacity for belief.

To be successful in whatever you do, you need to have credibility. People need to trust and believe in you before they will follow your lead. The things you say must be honored and the things you do must be an example to follow.

If you promise to give something but asks for something in return, your credibility may be questioned.

If you promise to do something but backed out last minute, your credibility will be compromised.

If you are a leader and you do not do what you preach, your credibility will be doubted.

I raise this topic because I have observed an event that happened recently.

A staff has requested to speak to someone of high authority (let’s call him TTH – short for Top of The Hierarchy) in an attempt to ‘help’ fellow colleagues who are deemed to be suffering in their work (himself included) due to high levels of stress cascaded down. Exchanges happened between the staffs and promises were made that voices will be heard.

A meeting was subsequently arranged with TTH and emotions were charged up to the max. And just when everything seems to be set for action, at the last minute, the staff backed out and gave excuses not to meet.

Here comes my questions: As  his peers, what will you think? When you are promised a better tomorrow, when you think someone is finally speaking up for you, when this person seems to be the ‘Hero’ and suddenly, he disappears.

Without telling you why, without telling you where.

Will you still follow his lead? Will you still look up to him? Does he still have credibility?

I may have only observed one side of the story. However, my focus here is not whether the staff has done wrong in seeking redress. In fact, I do applaud his intention to help those who needs help.

My focus here is on credibility.

What level of credibility do you want to give to your friends, your family, your business associates, your customers? Do you want them to lose their faith and trust in you because of a short term gain? Or should you offer value and honor your offers to maintain a long term relation?

Let’s talk about internet marketing in the same aspect. If a marketer sells you a product, and you find great value from it, will you find and buy more from the same marketer? Of course!

However, if a marketer who is very good at writing his sales script but sells you a product that has little or no value, or does not help you in achieving what you intend to, does he have credibility? Will you trust his future recommendations?

To summarize, credibility is an important component in our life. Choose to be a credible person and take responsibility for your actions, your words and your choices.

You will make a difference.
